This year’s Superyacht Cup will be held on June 18th – 21st in the bay of Palma, once again under the race management of Real Club Nautico (RCNP), arguably the best race management team in World Yachting according to many commentators. The feedback from many participants after the 2013 event was that they had never experienced such quality course setting and race management at any previous regatta. High praise indeed from some of the world’s top professional yachtsmen!
There are already 17 confirmed registrations, and little doubt that last years entry field with 21 of the worlds finest super sailing yachts will be equalled or exceeded, that is, if there are enough moorings for any more than that?
Also following their appearance last year, the association for the iconic J Class yachts have nominated this year’s SYC as their premier event of the season. To mark this event, there will be two very special and historical Cups presented to the winners, making it a very special occasion.
The “Corinthian Kings Cup” made by R & W Sorley of Glasgow in 1914 is a silver cup first presented by King George V to the Royal Clyde Yacht Club. This will be awarded to the leading J Class for all four days racing with an amateur owner driver.
The “Kings Hundred Guinea Cup” made by Carington & Co of London in 1927 is made of silver gilt and was presented by King George VI for the Royal Yacht Squadron regatta in 1937. This will be presented to the first placed J Class on handicap on Wednesday 18th June.
Running since 1996, The Superyacht Cup Palma is the longest running superyacht regatta in Europe and attracts many of the most prestigious sailing yachts from all over the world. The regatta is a favourite with yacht owners, friends, captains and crew who visit Palma de Mallorca annually for the 4-day regatta.
With warm early summer conditions and reliable sea breezes, the Bay of Palma offers some of the most idyllic racing conditions in the Mediterranean.
