The Yacht Harbour Association (TYHA) have announced that Marina Muiderzand, close to the town of Almere in Holland, has achieved the maximum 5 Gold Anchor Rating. This is an improvement on their previous 4 Gold Anchor status.

Marina Muiderzand is situated on the Ljmeer, with Amsterdam a short distance across the Meer and excellent access to the North Sea Canal and thence into the North Sea.

The marina is well protected with trees and beaches around the perimeter giving a pleasant, relaxing ambience. It is also extremely well laid out, providing good facilities onsite for its clients.

Gareth Turnbull, TYHA General Manager says, “I’m delighted that in 3 years since their last assessment, Marina Muiderzand has increased from 4 to 5 Gold Anchors. There have been many improvements since the last assessment in 2008 and this is a great marina, worth a visit.”

Excellent environmental credentials are in place and management strive to educate berth holders through good environmental advice distributed through the complex.

This is a full service marina, providing a comfortable and attractive base for boat owners to enjoy their sport. Lisan Cox manages the site well and she and her team are rightfully proud of the facilities that they provide.

Lisan Kox, Marina Manager says “It feels a little bit like achieving a Michelin Star for a restaurant, recognition for our beautiful Marina and great staff”

The Gold Anchor Award Scheme has been operating for 24 years and is based on the TYHA Code of Practice for the design construction and operation of marinas. Ratings range from 1 to 5 Gold Anchors. Any award issued is a sure sign of a credible, quality marina with the number of anchors demonstrating the facilities and standard of service available to berth holders and compliance with statutory regulations.

The Scheme is a voluntary assessment programme which is focussed on customer service and providing quality moorings for the boat owner. The scheme was recently awarded Green Initiative of the year 2011 by the Practical Boat Owner magazine.
